Additional information

<21> This paper reports pioneering work on social travel systems. Such systems crowdsource travel information rather than using an instrumented transport network. This is the first academic study of the effectiveness of these systems and provides new insights into adoption and usage patterns. Conducted jointly with local industry the work described included the design and development of a prototype that was trialled with over 300 users during 18 months. The work had a significant impact on the industrial partner leading to increasing sales and new staff appointments. The paper was presented at the first joint Ubicomp/Pervasive conference (acceptance rate 23.4%).
