<08> This very strongly-cited paper is the culmination of extensive work on a programming-language independent lightweight software component model, called OpenCom. This is arguably our biggest single contribution to middleware research, with OpenCom being directly adopted by a number of EU projects (e.g. the "WISEBED" STREP and the “RUNES” and "SmartSantander" IPs), strongly influencing related component models such as INRIA's Fractal, and being widely used in the research community, with over 2,200 downloads to date. The paper is published in ACM Transactions on Computer Systems, the top journal in the systems field.
