A novel approach to utilise bimetallic Au-Pt microrockets for separation purposes is demonstrated. Hydrogen peroxide-driven microrockets (able to transport molecular cargo) are reported to capture nucleic acid targets in real samples. The microrockets with an outer shell of gold modified with DNA-capture probes enable transport of DNA targets and hybridisation accelerated by rapid movement. This allows for development of new microfluidics, separations, and lab-on-chip devices, where the solid phase is moved while the liquid phase is standing still.
