Characterization of 18th Century Meissen porcelain using SEM-EDS
The paper resulted from a research collaboration with Bonhams auction house, London. It enables ancient artefacts to be properly attributed and led to an increase in the use of scientific analysis in the auction process, which is now routine for the first time (Sebastian.Kuhn@bonhams.com). This greatly assists Bonhams and increasingly other auction houses (Sothebys and Christies). The results were widely reported in the art press, http://www.antiquestradegazette.com/news/2011/may/23/bonhams-announce-partnership-with-cranfield-university-to-help-identify-fakes/, http://international.exibart.com/news/articolo.php?id_cat=42&id_news=667). The research resulted in a further research collaboration with Bonhams, adopting the principles for analysis of Chinese porcelain. The work won a major International Award from the Giacometti Foundation for combating art crimes (http://www.antiquestradegazette.com/news/2012/may/08/international-recognition-for-cranfield-fakes-project/)
