Additional information

Typical damage to multiple leaf walls during catastrophic events is the loss of bond between the leaves with consequent collapse of the external leaf. In many cases grout injection or wall jacketing fail due to incompatibility with the construction of the walls. Here, a complementary technique to grouting is proposed by the authors. Experimental results and applications on site have shown positive results and, in some cases, increases in shear strength and stiffness of the masonry walls. The significance of this work is demonstrated through its citation in the new Italian Standard (2009, No.617, pp.424-25) for reinforcing historic masonry.
