Design of an electromagnetic imaging system for weapon detection based on GMR sensor arrays
This work developed a pulsed electromagnetic sensing and imaging system for concealed weapons offering significant improvements in efficiency and capability. It was funded by EPSRC and cross-government departments in collaboration with Manchester and Queen’s Universities. It led to two best-paper awards, BBC and EPSRC media translation resulting in wide-scale public interest, and the inclusion of research members (Dr Wilson, Manchester) in high-level national and UK-USA security initiatives. It led to follow-on funding from EPSRC (EP/D079179 £111,835, EP/J012343 £1.175,282), an invited talk in FENDT 2010, ALERT ADSA09 Workshop (Silevitch [m.silevitch@neu.edu]) and a global research award £23,967 from the RAE (Satish [udpa@egr.msu.edu]).).
