This paper led to an invitation to the 8th International Conference in Urban Earthquake Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology in March 2011. The increased visibility of Dr Biscontin's work in Japan also led to collaboration with Prof Murakami of Kyoto University and an invitation to join the Editorial Board of Soils and Foundations, the journal of the Japanese Geotechnical Society. Dr Biscontin has also been invited to hold a plenary lecture at the 14th conference of the International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics in Kyoto in 2014 (http://14iacmag.sakura.ne.jp/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/PlenaryLecturers.pdf).
