The paper advances detector design for the analysis of solid surfaces. It reports on a new detector design that is at least x50 times faster than current technology and thus allows data acquisition in high vacuum environments, as in SEMs. This work, which was funded by EPSRC (EP/C53087X/1), builds upon previous research in AES detectors by the group. The concept has been patented for commercial exploitation UK Patent Application (GB10 05481.5).
