Additional information

This paper presents the results from an international research collaboration (UK, France and China) on modelling material fracturing using boundary element method. The paper proposes a novel and effective approach to deal with stress singularities in V-notched structures. The uniqueness of this new approach is that it does not require fine meshes near v-notch tips, and also both the basic and higher order stress singularities can be captured simultaneously. Academically, the research provides an advanced algorithm for solving boundary integration equations with singularities, and practically it can be implemented in BEM software to improve the rate of convergence and accuracy.
