Additional information

> For polar regions, because of high reflectance snow and ice surface as well as at large Solar Zenith Angles, it is very difficult to retrieve aerosol optical depth (AOD) values from satellite data. Therefore, aerosol remote sensing has hardly been used in the Arctic region. Operational satellite aerosol products do not cover most of the Arctic region. We have developed a neoteric approach to achieve AOD from both MODIS instruments flying on the Terra and Aqua satellites. The detailed analysis of the model results demonstrates that the Aerosol Properties Retrieval over Snow algorithm is suitable for Arctic region AOD retrieval.
