Additional information

This paper introduced a new design parameter to quantify, for the first time, the coupled dynamic behaviour of a floating ‘spar-type’ wind turbine. This has already led to a new approach to optimise direct drive generator design for floating wind turbine systems. Consequent work on generator air-gap modelling has led to a new collaboration with Norwegian University of Science and Technology (yihan.xing@ntnu.no).
