Significance of output:

In transport, environmental sustainability can be achieved by the introduction of cleaner vehicles and modal shift towards more sustainable modes. The research described in this paper covers the environmental impacts of alternatively powered vehicles, the increased ridership and the benefits to the operator of new buses introduced in Winchester. The work described in this and related papers formed a basis for McDonald’s subsequent responsibility for the evaluation methodology and interpretation of results for all subsequent CIVITAS measures in Europe (450 transport sustainability measures in 43 European cities; GUARD and POINTER EC projects).
