Additional information

This paper is the first piece of research to use Optical Coherence Tomography on the eyeball to measure ocular biometry and to use this in a pressure vessel model to calculate the elastic moduli of the cornea and sclera. It showed that eyeball thickness variations in a fresh sample can be measured to a high level of accuracy. Rheological properties of fresh eyes are very difficult to measure with accuracy. This paper has wide reach because it has provided a novel means of making such measurements; its significance is in potential applications for design of instrumentation to measure intraocular pressure.
