Additional information

The study was performed as a part of the Multi-Component Design and Optimization project (MCDO) supported by the Department of Trade and Industry. The paper is the result of close collaboration with Rolls-Royce plc and the UTC in Thermo-Fluids Systems. An efficient finite element analysis/computational fluid dynamics (FEA/CFD) thermal coupling technique has been developed and demonstrated. The data obtained were used in the design and optimization of aero-engines and their components (Trent 700, V2500, Trent 900). The CFD/FEA tools designed were included in Rolls-Royce in-house CFD code Hydra and Rolls-Royce in-house FEA code SC03 developed for turbomachinery and related applications.
