Additional information

This is first of two papers that presents a novel hybrid energy storage system using superconductors and batteries with large energy and power storage capacities. This type of energy storage is very important for renewable energy integration to address the problem of intermittency. Importantly, the method developed will facilitate viable renewable-based generation, concomitant with smart demand management. The research results are based on an active collaboration with the University of Cambridge and Tsinghua University, China. Bath led the main technical aspects of the research.
