Additional information

This is an invited paper in a special issue of 'outstanding papers presented at 19th IEEE International Symposium on the Applications of Ferroelectrics & 10th European Conference on the Applications of Polar Dielectrics. The paper presents the first complete model of piezo-electrically actuated bistable composites. This work on piezoelectric fibres/morphing composites is highlighted in a Government Foresight Horizon Scanning Centre Project (http://bis.gov.uk/assets/bispartners/foresight/docs/general-publications/10-1252an-technology-and-innovation-futures-annex.pdf). The modelling capability also underpinned a successful application on 'Optimisation of Broadband Energy Harvesters Using Bistable Composites' (EPSRC, FEC £374k, EP/J014389/1) with NPL and Perpetuum. Giddings was a PhD student supervised by Bowen.
