Chris Evans is an astronomer working at the UK ATC with 30% of his time allocated to astronomical research. His research work involves instrument development and exploitation in the study of massive stars in both our own and nearby galaxies. This work is closely connected to the work of PHYESTA astronomers Ferguson and Hambly, as demonstrated by the fact that Evans is first supervisor for two PHYESTA research students (one recently graduated, one currently in the second year of their PhD) with Ferguson as second supervisor. Evans' developmental research into MOS spectrographs for the European Extremely Large Telescope is also closely connected to the work of Dunlop and McLure on high-redshift galaxies, leading to co-authorship of publications in SPIE.
