Double-weighted statement

This is the first critical edition of a work by the author Thomas Amory. The novel engages with an encyclopaedic range of eighteenth-century interests including theology, mathematics, natural history, church history and political controversy which required extensive research across a range of disciplines. The novel also draws upon one hundred and forty one texts as source texts, a level of allusion not previously recognised, and these also required extensive searching. The author himself is obscure, requiring extensive biographical research. The text is a long novel (131,605 words) which was fully collated for all variants across three life-time editions.
