As an output of the EPSRC MEGURATH project, this paper was invited after presenting at International Conference on Pattern Recognition Applications and Methods (ICPRAM 2012, Portugal), it provides a new mathematical approach to improve facial expression recognition. The proposed diffeomorphic image registration method has been extended to dynamic 3D MRI and Dr Pepiez has moved to the Biomedical Image Analysis Laboratory at Oxford University to continue the work after completing his PhD at UCLan.
