Additional information

<08>This work forms the basis of subsequent research into virtual machine optimisation using method/function specialisation, in particular relating to object persistence and real-time garbage collection, where frequent low-level object state checks can have a significant impact on application performance. This paper was one of 14 papers, drawn from a wide range of academic conferences, that was selected for publication in extended form in an on-line book on Java in academia and research (http://www.iconceptpress.com/www/site/papers.webView.php?publicationID=BK007-1-2) . There have since been over 550 downloads of the paper. The original conference acceptance rate was 32%/57.
