Public squares in European city centres
The research involved the redeployment and reconfiguration of software to enable its use in urban design, including dynamic three-dimensional design of public spaces and city centre squares. The methodology was adopted by five practices (including Jane Darbyshire & David Kendall; and Napper Architects) in a RIBA North competition to design a new major square for Newcastle upon Tyne. This was followed by invitations to present the research at a number of places including: Griffith, Curtin and Newcastle Universities in Australia (May 2013); and as a keynote address at the Contribution of Universities to Sustainable Development Conference in Belgrade (http://www.strand.rs/ university/).
