Additional information

The authors have implemented a new set of Core Component Engineering (CCE) tools for the virtual prototyping and commissioning of assembly automation systems. This patented (WO 2012152890) approach is highly novel and supports the creation and maintenance of evolvable production automation systems. This toolkit was utilised by Ford (abaker5@ford.com) and used for the production stations of their award-winning Fox three-cylinder Ecoboost engine in 2011. The toolkit is now part of Ford’s standard engineering toolset, and has helped them target a 20% reduction in launch times. The system is now being trialled by UYT (matt_patching@uyt.ltd.uk), a major sub-assembly supplier to Honda.
