Additional information

One of the main impediments to large-scale commercialization of hydrogen fuel cells is degradation of the cells components over time, in particular that of the membrane. In collaboration with Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells Ltd (see author list), vital characteristics of the precise mechanism of chemical degradation were elucidated for the first time (including initiation and subsequent progress through the membrane) with the first detailed mathematical model of the process. The results have been used by international researchers concerned with general membrane degradation and hydrogen fuel cell stability, as is evident from the citations.
