Additional information

The work reported in this paper was jointly funded by the EPSRC, Airbus UK and EADS UK (EP/G060215/1, £366k) , and has led to a new partnership with AkzoNobel (the world's leading paint and coatings manufacturer, Andrew Burgess, andrew.burgess@akzonobel.com). A new grant with AkzoNobel as partner has also been awarded (EPSRC: EP/K038664/1, £337k). The simulation approach developed in this paper allows new methods for drag reduction to be tested in a far more efficient manner than previously possible.
