Modelling of Fabric Structures and Associated Design Issues
The work led to a research collaboration with ARUP (Dr. Thomas Li, Thomas.Li@Arup) aimed at developing optimal cutting patterns for fabric structures. The issue of common design misconceptions generated interest from researchers in Europe developing a new architectural field: ’fabric-formed concrete’, including Diederik Veenendaal (BLOCK Research Group, veenendaal@arch.ethz.ch), who views the work as unique in providing real insights into understanding of current computational modelling methods for fabric structures. Aspects of the work have contributed to patent application GB1311581.1 – “Biomedical Scaffold”. The author has also been invited by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency to referee grant proposals on fabric-formed concrete (bridge@ffg.at).
