Modeling of contaminant transport in soils considering the effects of micro- and macro-heterogeneity
This paper presents a novel stochastic framework for prediction of contaminant transport in porous media. A modelling tool developed based on proposed framework to study the effects of soil heterogeneity on different factors involved in transport phenomena and provide valuable information to find the best remediation approaches. The results of this research attracted attention of agriculturists (Prof Fariborz Abbasi, AERI, fariborzabbasi@ymail.com) and spurred collaborative work on the potential risk of soil and groundwater contamination due to agricultural pesticides (Mousavi Nezhad et al. 2011, DOI: 10.1002/nag.1100).
