Additional information

In this joint project (EP/D048672/1, EP/D048982/1) with the University of Cambridge, a rare earth doping scheme was developed to obtain tunable lasing and broadband amplification for optical communication. Such materials are now developed for planar integration and also for biomarker sensing in a UK-India collaborative project (DST No: SR/WOS-A/CS-87/2011 (G), padmavasudev@gmail.com). Zhou et al have adopted the materials and doping strategy for achieving super broadband optical amplifiers (http://dx.doi.org/10.1364/OE.20.012205) and through laser processing patent PCT/GB2013/050300. Gould Technology (spilevar@gouldfo.com) are seeking to integrate such materials into planar waveguide platforms for a new generation of planar photonic devices.
