<22>This paper demonstrates the application of GAs to the design of water distribution networks. It identifies not only the most economical design(s) but also robust solutions that increase the reliability of network design(s). It introduces a new way of incorporating tank variables such that tank related constraints are always satisfied. This work was initiated during a secondment to United Utilities, and subsequently received funding from United Utilities to carry out further research on water distribution networks.
