State-dependent control of a hydraulically-actuated nuclear decommissioning robot
Two novel contributions.
First: essential new stability results facilitate wider practical application of a nonlinear pole assignment algorithm and allow future extension to multivariable and optimal design cases; follow-on collaborations with e.g. Professor Keith Burnham (csx167@coventry.ac.uk), Coventry University, and NP Structures Limited (Ian.Wolfenden@npstructures.co.uk), the latter via an ERDF studentship, are leading to their further development for thermal control in buildings.
Second: development of a hydraulically actuated nuclear decommissioning robotic manipulator, supported by Brokk UK Ltd. (mike.evans@brokkuk.co.uk), Hydro-Lek Ltd. and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (jeffrey.a.kuo@nnl.co.uk), and previously utilised for contaminated material discrimination trials by Sellafield Ltd. and the National Nuclear Laboratory.
