Additional information

The article presents the Univariate Reduced Quadrature (URQ) method, a novel algorithm for uncertainty propagation in engineering analysis systems. Due to its high execution speed, URQ is ideal for probabilistic design optimization based on high-fidelity computational tools. Here URQ is used for the probabilistic design optimization of aircraft wings. URQ is being used by Campobasso in a joint project with wind turbine manufacturer Gaia-Wind to account for manufacturing and assembly tolerances in turbine design, and, at NASA, for the probabilistic design of unmanned aerial vehicles. URQ was developed by Padulo and Campobasso within the VIVACE EU project (AIP3 CT-2003-502917).
