Additional information

The originality of this work lies in the application of well-established mass-spectroscopy to provide temporal reaction and temperature maps with minimal disruption of reactor flow and catalyst chemistry. 3-D mapping was demonstrated by sampling inside confined space reactors (monolithic catalysts for the abatement of pollutants in automotive converters, catalysed fuel reformers, proton exchange membranes or fuel cell flow channels) and confirmed by 3D modelling. The work was the Winner of a 2008 R & D100 Award in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Cummins Inc and is currently commercialized by Hiden, Inc, a worldwide leader in mass spectrometry (http://www.hidenanalytical.de/produkte/Katalysatoruntersuchung/spacims-raeumlich-aufgeloeste-kapillareinlass-ms).
