Development of a finite differential model for the analysis of environmental effects on transmission lines for down-hole applications
Long-distance transmission of mixed signals (analog, digital) and power with minimal cabling is an important aspect for tools operating in down-hole environments to minimise large cabling costs and space limitations. The situation is even more complicated when cables pass through different temperature zones as that found in down-hole environments. In this paper, a comprehensive theoretical analysis and practical verification of the theoretical findings have been accomplished. The model can be used to determine optimal requirements for transmission of signals and power using a single cable.
