This paper describes our BoneJ software, which is used across disciplines to analyse morphology in images. It has been downloaded 6705 times by 4023 unique hosts world-wide since its release in March 2010. The articles that cite it are broad in discipline, indicating its usability. It has an active users’ forum (http://tinyurl.com/k78k3vv) and has recently been adopted by the Software Sustainability Institute to improve the code, processes, and communication mechanisms, and ensure the life of the software.
