Analysis of transport costs for energy crops for use in biomass pyrolysis plant networks
This techno-economic study provides key insights into biomass feedstock transportation costs. A novel methodology is employed which considers detailed transport logistics to establish accurate costs. As a result a number of important opportunities and limitations for these bioenergy technologies are identified, which have influenced new academic research (USA) as well as informing policy studies (examples from USA, China, Germany) and specific project feasibility studies (examples from UK and Austria). Influential claims are made about the impacts of feed transportation in bioenergy systems, and the importance of the paper lies in the practical real-world approach taken to address the issue.
