Classification of macroalgae as fuel and its thermochemical behaviour
This is the first extensive classification of macroalgae as a biofuel and its significance is recognised internationally by researchers investigating the thermal processing of macroalgae. The resulting expertise has secured funding from the EPSRC (EP/E039995/1) and the Royal Society (RG2010R1). This work contributed to the Supergen II marine biomass activity, has led to 6 subsequent papers and invited lectures at international workshops (e.g. at the Danish Algae Association). This research has allowed the authors to contribute to the strategic research agenda for the Algal Bioenergy Special Interest Group funded by the TSB and NERC.
