Additional information

The Eurocode 2 (EC2) span-to-depth rules are shown to give excessively thin slabs. Refined rules are proposed which, for the first time, account for the influence of construction loading on allowable slab thickness. The underlying research is incorporated into the UK National Annex to EC2, its background paper PD 6687, Concrete Society Technical Report 58, and Concrete Centre publications including a design guide being prepared for the Concrete Industry EC2 Group (Charles.Goodchild@concretecentre.com). Presented to fib (UK) 2103, short courses e.g. ARUP (tony-e.jones@arup.com) and CEN/TC250/SC2/WG1 the European committee considering future revisions to EC2 (Charles.Goodchild@concretecentre.com).
