This paper was a follow up to an invited paper that Dr Young presented at the 12th Antennas and Propagation Symposium, India (Prof. Aanandan Chandroth, Cochin University, India, aanandan@gmail.com). The paper, presents a novel way of integrating active devices with waveguides, and resulted in the award of a British Council UKIERI grant with Cochin University India on novel switched beam antennas for future millimetre-wave WiFi systems. This Kent/Cochin collaboration has fostered a co-tutelle PhD arrangement between the institutions.
