On the coefficient quantization of Multiplicative FIR filters
This paper results from collaborative work between Kent and two universities in Belgium. It presents quantitative experimental results on the effects of using quantised fixed-point coefficients when implementing Multiplicative Finite Impulse Response (MFIR) filters on FPGAs. MFIR filters require fewer quantization bits for the coefficients than the corresponding Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filters. Conference versions of this material received the Best Poster Prize and the Best Paper Award at the 5th European Conference on the Use of Modern Information and Communication Technologies and the International Conference on Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition and Applications in 2012.
