Additional information

<22> Efficient and effective use of equipment in modern container terminals is key to profitability. This paper describes two novel algorithms for automated guided vehicles scheduling in container terminals. The first one is a complete algorithm with polynomial time complexity while the second is a heuristic search algorithm for covering really large problems. The work reported in this paper led to a KTP project with Felixstowe (Leader Stephen Peck pecks@fdrc.co.uk & Manager Tom Corkhill corkhillt@fdrc.co.uk), the busiest port in UK and a TSB-funded logistics project with Transfaction (Martin Robinson martin.robinson@transfaction.com).
