Developing pathways to low carbon land-based passenger transport in Great Britain by 2050
Funded by the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, this explores changes necessary to GB transport patterns to meet 2050 carbon reduction targets. Models were developed to evaluate carbon savings from different policy measures and packages. The findings were novel showing the immense difficulty of achieving the change required and how technological improvements alone will not be enough - substantial changes in transport behaviours and lifestyles will also be required. Follow-up funding has enabled redesign of the models to focus on individual urban areas and undertake work with local practitioners and individuals to explore how change can best be accommodated.
