Substrate Integrated Waveguide Cavity Resonators for Complex Permittivity Characterization of Materials
ICH-4: This paper describes the development of the world’s first substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) sensors for accurately measuring microwave properties of small volumes of liquid solvents. It resulted from our long-standing collaboration with Agilent Technologies, with a Leeds PhD student (Saeed) taking part in a GRASS-ROOT internship programme at Agilent, Component Test Division (California). This led directly to development of the Agilent Technologies scanning probe microscope range, with models 5400/5600LS brought to market in 2009 (see Impact Case Study 2). It also contributed to the 2013 Leeds award of an eight-partner £18M TSB project ‘Chariot’ (Ref:100734), with Proctor & Gamble.
