Additional information

This book emerges from a much wider collaborative project, the Nordic Wardrobe Network. It considers cross- and inter-disciplinary approaches to the study of objects and clothing, in this case photography. Here the photograph becomes a primary source for the discussion of dress and its contexts. It is the result of a conference of the same name held at the University of Iceland (2009).

In addition to her editorial role, Turney’s contribution to this text outlines methods of approach to photographs as aide memoirs in ethnographic studies in a museum context. This contribution has been cited as an example of innovative practice (Kawamura, 2011, pp.97-100. ISBN: 978-1-84788-582-1) and has been extended in published papers (Sandino & Partington, 2013, ISBN: 0857851977) an exhibition (BSAD, 2010) and has informed museum practices in Scandinavia. Challenges to methodological approaches in dress as outlined via this project, enabled the instigation of Trans/National Dress (an international conference at BSAD, 2011), which culminated in a special issue of the journal Critical Issues in Fashion and Beauty (2013), and establishment of a new journal, Clothing Cultures (2013).

Research responding to this work includes Klepp & Bjerck (International Journal of Social research methodology, 30th October, 2012) (www.cbs.dk/forskning/institutter_centre/projekter/wardrobe_network/menu/wardrobe_netvaerk).
