Application of the geomechanical facies approach and comparison of exploration and evaluation methods used at Soultz-sous-Forêts (France) and Spa Urach (Germany) geothermal sites
In this internationally co-authored paper Geomechanical Facies for Georeservoir-engineering is developed and applied to the recovery of geothermal energy in two European countries. This internationally funded work, DFG MCD113/1-5 (€77k), contributed to the development of a German national initiative in the field of geo-reservoir engineering, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research , Leipzig, olaf.kolditz@ufz.de, and Göttingen, Martin.Sauter@Geo.Uni-Goettingen.de. Concepts proven in this work led to a further international collaboration on the design and build of a unique experimental equipment, GREAT, (£900k), (Martin.Sauter@Geo.Uni-Goettingen.de). The concepts presented in this paper have been applied by: RWTH Aachen, DoI:10.1029/2011wr011673, and DoI:10.1016/j.geothermics.2011.11.001; and Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, DoI:10.1007/s12665-012-1706-z.
