Among the scarcely available studies on the hydrology of the southern Andes, this study contributed with the characterisation of diverse hydrological regimes of Patagonia's largest basin. It is a contribution to key baseline studies of a pristine region soon to be affected by a US$7 billion hydropower dam project. In the context of the international effort of prediction in ungauged basins, Baker is a suitable basin for an "acid test" for hydrologic models. It stemmed from collaboration between University of Greenwich (UoG), Imperial College, Chilean Water Authority and others. Output from the PBCT-Conicyt-WorldBank ACI-70, MECESUP UCO0308 and UoG grants.
