Additional information

This paper represents the state-of-the-art in innovative use of acoustic emission as a new and activity based measurement modality to provide a biomarker for knee ageing and degeneration. This work (with Lancaster University) was shortlisted as the Times Higher Education Research Project of the Year Award in 2011, provided the scientific base for a large-scale multi-centre longitudinal clinical trial funded by MRC (MR/K025597/1), and is expected to lead to a completely new clinical diagnostic discipline for the musculoskeletal system.
