Additional information

Predictions in this paper show that instantaneous flow can be reversed in individual radial supply ports of a vortex amplifier, whilst aggregate flow through the device remains positive; and that the flow pattern generated in those ports is periodic. This was previously unknown. The work was reported to Sellafield Limited engineers (and sub-contractors) and the paper was requested by National Nuclear Laboratory staff and Total engineers. Work described in this paper and in Output 1 was substantially funded by Sellafield Ltd, alongside other in-kind contributions.
