This paper is an output from the COPSE project ('Coincident Probabilistic weather data for a Sustainable built Environment') conducted collaboratively by the universities of Manchester, Sheffield, Bath, Northumbria and Edinburgh Napier. Northumbria’s work was funded by EPSRC’s Adaptiveness and Resilience to Climate Change programme (grant reference EP/F038135/1) for which Professor Underwood was PI. This original research paper, by invitation, is part of a Special Issue of the journal: Adaptation and resilience to a changing climate: Supporting adaptation decision making, which was edited by Dr Roger Street (Technical Director of the United Kingdom Climate Impacts Programme).
