Freeze/thaw protection of concrete with optimum rubber crumb content
This work describes empirical research on the optimum quantity of rubber crumb as an air entraining ad-mixture in concrete for freeze-thaw protection and maximum strength. Analysis investigated how rubber crumb entrained air and reacted with surrounding concrete. Data from the work form appear in a new book 'Material Recycling' (Springer Publishing). Richardson was invited to present findings at Anglia Ruskin University (Concrete Society, April 2013). Apart from providing freeze/thaw protection, use of recycled rubber crumb waste has benefits for environmental sustainability, and publication of the work has led to an approach by Adroit Recycling Ltd (London) regarding commercial product development.
