Additional information

In this paper, a novel method based on air-blowing and vacuum grouting techniques for embedding long-distance optical fibre sensors was developed. This method is more robust and has no interference with normal concrete construction during its installation and the long-distance embedded optical fibre sensor (LEOFS) also can be easily repaired. Therefore, it overcomes the limitations facing the current surface embedded distributed optical fibre sensor by avoiding the potential damage to the optical fibre sensor from the chemical attack, mechanical impact and material deterioration. Hence, this method has solved one major obstacle of using LEOFS in real world.
