<26> We reported rarely disclosed data on over 2000 hours of formal testing and analysis of the racing video game, Split Second. We introduced new ways of measuring players enjoyment and used these to refined the design of tracks and competitors. Intriguingly, we achieved significant retention of engagement, when balancing difficulty against measured performance such that players would tend to finish in 3rd place. This learning has since been applied to subsequent leaderboard oriented game designs at Disney Interactive.
This study was key to Split Second and following video games, which cumulatively have made over $50m in global lifetime sales.
